In February 2006, ProVention hosted its second annual ProVention Forum in Bangkok, Thailand. The 2006 Forum addressed the central theme of 'Incentives for Reducing Risk' and examined a range of inter-related topics concerning risk, vulnerability and natural disasters. It included 6 main themes:

  • Evidence of changing patterns of risk and new perspectives on disaster vulnerability
  • Government incentives – and disincentives – for investing in disaster reduction
  • Post-disaster recovery: is there a real window of opportunity for reducing risk ?
  • Balancing state responsibility and community action in risk
  • Risk transfer solutions and the business case for managing disaster risk
  • Turning learning and knowledge into action: is it time to rethink our approach ?
