Disaster Risk Management Working Paper Series No. 6
As part of its efforts to promote disaster prevention and mitigation as an integral part of development activities, the World Bank's Disaster Management Facility undertook a study on the economic and financial consequences of natural disasters. The study entails a state-of-the art review and three country case studies. The first case study was conducted on Dominica, a small island economy. The second study on disasters and public finances in Bangladesh is reported in this document. The third case study focuses on a drought- sensitive southern African economy. A final synthesis report draws together new evidence with that from the researchers' previous studies and otherrelevant literature.
